Suspect that you've outgrown QuickBooks? Congratulations! That typically means that you are growing beyond the…
Are you frustrated with your current ERP system and/or vendor? I’ll bet that if you are like most of the people I help… that it comes down to one (or more) of six key areas.
- You bought into a slick sales pitch that promised low or no cost for the moon.
- The company that sold you the software did little to no analysis / scoping to ensure the application was a good fit for your business.
- Implementation took way longer than you were led to believe.
- Once the implementation was complete, support from your vendor seemed non-existent or did not meet expectations.
- You got hit with surprise fees and rate increases at the end of the year.
- Getting access to your data is painstaking and comes at a cost.
If any of these points hit a sore spot, know that you’re not alone and the situation can be fixed.
What Really Matters to ERP Users?
The following is a screengrab from a survey conducted by Deloitte. What customers were impressed with during their first ERP experience, shifted dramatically the second time an ERP selection was made.
The Fix
You’ll need to have a new vendor come in and assess the situation and recommend a new course of action. Here are some keys to look for in a new ERP partner:
- Track record, testimonials, and experience of the vendor.
- Level of support offered directly by the vendor.
- The amount of time the vendor spends scoping your business needs, relative to the application.
- Documented support policies.
- Clearly stated pricing information regarding licenses, usage, etc.
- Accessibility of your data.
- A partner who is more interested in getting it done right than getting it done quickly.
A great ERP experience always involves a great partner. Look closely at the partner first and the product, second. Your experience will be much better the second time around.
